Throughout the years, George has concentrated on Hair and Scalp Care. His clients come from near and far. A great many of his clients have been with him for twenty years or more. His clients come from out-of-state and abroad. No matter what happens to their hair, they make a trip to the man they now call, “The Hair Care Specialist”.
“Ease and versatility are the key words for hair care in this decade”, says George, owner of the fashionable Park Ave. Salon, Hair Fashions East. Clients of today need no-fuss hair-dos and grooming services for their active and demanding life-styles. This, of course, means regular visits to a salon – one that will answer all of their beauty needs.
George Buckner, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, came to New York with a dream. He began his career in the beauty industry in the early 1960s. He studied in New York, Austria, Germany, and France. He soon became known as an expert in understanding and treating the problems of chemically enhanced hair.
As an innovator, he was the first New York Hair Salon to have a cosmetology apprenticeship program in conjunction with the Cooperative School of Technical Education through the Board of Education. There have been many graduates of the program and two are currently employed by Hair Fashions East. George still continues to teach and train young people. He has served as a “Partner in Education”, through the New York Board of Education since 1984.
1977 – Elected the first Vice President of the Societe Française de Biosthétique, USA Section
1981 – Gold Medal Winner, Women Hairstyle Festival in Birmingham, England
1982 – Gold Medal Winner and Team Captain Women Hairstyling Festival in Birmingham, England
1983 – Judge at the 1st African-American Hair Festival, Dakar, Senegal
1987 – Image maker Award, Association of Black Charities
1990 – Elected President of the Societe Française de Biosthétique, USA Section for four years.
1995 – Member of Career and Technical Education, CTE Advisory Board

- 1984 – Keynote Speaker at Baruch College to students citywide in conjunction with the NYC Board of Education, Partners in Education Program.
1985 – NYC Board of Education, Partners in Education: Conducted a teach-in to instructors at Sarah J. Hill School on “Haircutting and the Proper Use of the Curling Iron.
1990 – Conducted a workshop for students at Sarah J. Hill School, Brooklyn on “Job Interviewing Skills.”
2000 – George Buckner has been awarded the NAACP Black Heritage States Man’s Award for Philanthropy.
Also conducted other Grooming workshops at Covenant House and Harlem Hospital.
